Had dinner at this tempura restaurant in Kyoto and it was a fantastic find! The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and each piece was light, crispy, and full of flavour. The chef was so friendly and explained the dishes and making the experience feel personal. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic, high-quality tempura in a warm atmosphere.
We were recommended this restaurant by the Hotel we’re staying in. The tempura here is light, crisp, and cooked to absolute perfection—not oily, just beautifully delicate. Only menu is for the drinks, as the chef shows you the fresh produce he will cook for you. All of it was exquisite. This place is pristine and very quiet. It’s clear a lot of care goes into both the cooking and the service. They’re listed in the Michelin guide as a new restaurant. We used Google translate to have a little conversation with the chef! Definitely a wonderful experience in Kyoto—highly recommend.
This is my first time visiting a specialized tempura restaurant, so I can't make a reasonable judgment solely based on the food, but overall, it was delicious. The chef is very hands-on with many aspects of the restaurant and does his best to take care of each guest's feelings. I really liked the atmosphere created by the chef; it feels like both a restaurant and a home. I came here to dine with my newlywed wife, and we discussed what it would be like if we were to open a restaurant ourselves. It was a joyful evening, and I also wish happiness and joy to the chef and his family.
The food at Miyagawacho Tensyou is truly excellent — the tempura technique is perfect: light, crisp, and packed with flavor. Each dish reflects a high level of skill and precision.However, the service left much to be desired. While not rude, it lacked the attention to detail expected in a dining experience of this level. There was another couple — clearly Japanese and seemingly important — who received significantly more attention and care from the chef. In contrast, we barely received any explanation about the dishes or the condiments provided, no warm welcome, and no guidance through the different courses.In a place where the chef’s presence and storytelling are part of the experience, this absence felt like a missed opportunity. We felt a bit overlooked, as if we weren’t valued customers.Timing of the dishes was consistent, but the dessert — just two slices of fruit — felt underwhelming and lacked the thoughtful touch you’d expect to close out a meal priced at 1,800 yen.The food is outstanding, but the overall experience would greatly benefit from more inclusive and attentive service.
お出迎えも丁寧で、店主の人柄も良く、最初から気持ちよく始められ、落ち着いたスペースでゆっくりと食事ができた。食事はサービスも大切なんだなと感じました。
食べるスピードに合わせて次の物を揚げてくれるので、ゆっくり自分のペースで2時間以上堪能しました。珍しい稚鮎、車海老、ホタテにはキャビア添え、キスは骨までカラッと揚げられ、見た目も綺麗で食べるのがもったいないくらい。アスパラやコーンの季節野菜の天麩羅、じゅんさいのウニ合えなど珍しいお椀、デザートに出たシャインマスカットの大福?、締のかき揚げ丼などもあり、話の種にかかせません。ともかく大満足しました。
