The Naumann Elephant Statue is a symbolic monument located at Michi-no-Eki Churui and the Naumann Elephant Museum in Makubetsu Town, Hokkaido.In 1969, Naumann elephant fossils were discovered in Churui, and since then the area has been known as the “Home of the Naumann Elephant.” The fossils that were unearthed were almost a complete skeleton, making it one of the most remarkable discoveries of its kind in Japan. To honor this history, a life-sized statue of the Naumann elephant was built on the roadside station grounds and in the nearby park, capturing the attention of visitors.This statue is more than just a tourist attraction. It stands as a symbol of Churui’s history and pride. For children, it serves as a playful landmark, while for adults, it makes for a perfect photo spot. When combined with a visit to the Naumann Elephant Museum, the statue offers a deeper appreciation of Churui’s unique charm and prehistoric legacy.

2023-06-27なんか9時頃に人が近づいたらパオーンパオーン言ってたけど9時だったから鳴ってたのか、何かボタンでもあったのか不明。
