I enjoyed the Shiromaru Station with my wife early in the afternoon on a midwinter Tuesday. The weather was cold with a strong wind. Clouds were flying across the sky, so strong sunshine quickly became rain. Even with the cold weather, my wife and I were kept warm by a fire in my heart for history. Is the station deep in the woods? Actually, when I approach it, the road is still drivable. One or two cars could park if it is desired. As for me and my wife, we walked to the station. From Tsukumo Bay it is only a half hour walk, so I think even for walking novices it should be doable. For those who concern themselves with details, the time is 1:30 pm. The date is 28 January. However, please be cautious with being too concerned with details. Even though it is a historical site with a lot of interest for railway lovers, it does not seem like a place where there will be a long line.Walk through the woods. When I see the bridge over where the rails were placed, look to the southwest and see the station building. The road leading down to it still has some pavement, but also mud. Still, I think it should be serviceable for most cars. When I research the history, it seems there used to be a parking space for bicycles, but it burned in a wildfire many years ago, and no trace of it can be seen.Even if the Noto Line was abolished in Heisei 17, the ground station waiting room still looks like a reliable building from a distance. Walk on the platform. Even though the platform is overgrown with moss, the tracks have vegetation growing everywhere and I cannot even see the tracks. Still, especially with the bridge to the northeast, I can easily get a feeling for where the tracks used to be.When I walk up close to the waiting room, it is clear this was an unmanned station. The waiting room is very simple, with a bench to rest inside. Sliding doors and windows protected the customers from cold winter rain and wind. It seems that even today it could be used as an emergency shelter if I am lost in a storm. Please be cautious, as some of the old lights are rusting and could fall on my head at any time! Additionally, I went with my wife in the winter, so when we saw the remains of a wasp’s nest of the ground we were not worried. However, if I go in the summer, please be cautious of wasps. When I look inside the waiting room, it seems quite tidy for a building abandoned 20 years ago. Even if the lights are rusting away, the floor looks swept. There is even a dustpan and a coffee mug. On the table is a newspaper from August 2024. On the announcement board on the back of the wall, a map of the old Noto line and a photo of the NT100 series diesel rail car that used to run on the Noto line. I get the feeling that someone is trying to maintain the memory of the Shirumaru Station and the old Noto line. The Noto line was especially important for high school students from the rural areas commuting to high school in Nanao or Suzu city, and when the Noto line shut down in Heisei 17, I had to either live in a boarding house or commute with a crowded bus line. When I think back to the times of commuting to school on an NT100, it has a nostalgic feeling.I think the station can be easily recommended for nostalgic students from the early Heisei era, as well as third-sector railway enthusiasts, and train lovers generally. For the person who has slowly been taking care of the building, I hope he continues to slowly clean and preserve the memory of early Heisei. Please take it in slowly.Thank you for your consideration.
