見逃せない2階の階段を登ると、茶道具が美しく並ぶお店です。
陶器や竹の道具など、真心のこもった本物の茶道具が並びます。
夫婦で運営するこの店は、まるで貴重なコレクションに触れるような体験です。
We stumbled upon this tiny tea utensil shop in Kyoto and it ended up being one of the most memorable stops of our trip.Run by a kind husband-and-wife couple, the place feels more like stepping into someone’s lifetime collection than a store. Quiet, unhurried, and completely different from the crowded souvenir streets nearby. They patiently showed us different matcha tools and explained the purpose behind each one — from choosing the right chasen whisk to understanding bowl styles.The shelves were filled with authentic pieces: handmade chawan, old lacquer containers, kettles, bamboo tools, and beautiful pottery from traditional makers. Nothing felt mass-produced — every item had character and history. You can tell they carefully curate what they sell rather than just stocking tourist items.If you’re in Kyoto and want real tea ceremony utensils, skip the flashy shops and come here instead. It feels less like shopping and more like being welcomed into Kyoto tea culture.
[date of visit: October 2024] Look out for the flight of stairs leading to the shop on the 2nd floor where various tools for tea ceremonies, including chasens and matcha bowls are displayed. The couple running the shop were very warm and friendly despite me not making any purchase.
Amazing store - not touristic, authentic and beautiful merchandise.Prices are good, and all items are beautiful. I’ve searched many stores for tea cups, and found the right couple in the store in no time and a very good price!Notice that there are no English signs, so pay attention to the store‘s stairway(it’s on the second floor).
