I feel so fortunate that I learned about this place. I was treated like a friend from the moment I arrived. The kimono selection is huge, and they even put my hair up - nothing fancy but it was pretty and decorated in the pictures... They take a bunch of photos for you! I learned a lot about the history of the tea and ceremony and had an absolutely delightful time.
You learn and participate in a traditional tea ceremony while dressed in kimonos! Highly recommend. Can participate alone or in a group.
A beautiful and unforgettable 50th birthday in Kyoto!I celebrated my 50th birthday at Caren Kyoto with my family, and it was truly extraordinary. We were welcomed into the quiet grace of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony — an experience that felt timeless and deeply meaningful.Dressed in elegant kimonos, we learned from a Tea Master who guided us through every step with care and precision. Thanks to an excellent translator, we discovered the art of preparing matcha — a process that felt as meditative as it was beautiful. My wife and daughter even took turns whisking their own bowls of matcha. The tea was smooth, rich, and vibrant, but what made it unforgettable was the stillness — that rare sense of connection between past and present, family and tradition. If you’re visiting Kyoto and want a cultural experience that truly touches the heart, I can’t recommend Caren Kyoto enough.
Highly recommended! We learnt alot. The staff were lovely, the guide had excellent English and the kimonos were excellent.
We had such a great time at the Tea Ceremony. Everything from wearing the kimono, the ceremony itself and of course the tea master answering our questions was superb. The guide in particular did a great job of translating so we were always fully aware of what was going on. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Kyoto!
Had an amazing tea ceremony experience with my wife on a honeymoon, all in a beautiful Kimono, together with a hair styling. Great explanation about the tea ceremony and other insights into Japanese traditions. Thank you!
Absolutely amazing experience. The staff was friendly and super knowledgeable on kimono wearing, the history of tea ceremonies, and the different teas. They made me feel so beautiful and took so many pictures of myself and my spouse before the ceremony. And the ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The sweets and the tea were delicious as well. They allow videos and pictures, which is awesome too!

What a wonderful cultural experience. Of all our experiences in Japan, this by far was our favourite. The hosts were amazingly friendly and taught us a lot about the the traditions of the tea ceremony. We selected our own kimono and Obi, and had some beautiful photos taken. We went upstairs for the tea ceremony and it was very meditative. It was beautiful to share this with my daughter and father, I would do this again!
