Staying at Daidai Atami felt less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a beautifully restored Japanese home.The quiet atmosphere, the scent of tatami and wood and the soft light through the shoji screens greet you upon arrival and takes you away from the busy life outside of the property.The house encourages you to slow down, and to enjoy the calmness of the beautiful house and environment. Each room is designed with meticulous detail, and blends a mixture of the original architecture with modern comfort.The onsen became a ritual during the stay, and the highlight of the house, which is always available. The spa-like bath is a luxury in itself, set in a traditional authentic bath house style - yet modern. We found ourselves coming back to the onsen many times during our stay!Daidai was the perfect place to stay, close enough to the shops and restaurants in Atami, but a world away from the busy crowds and almost felt like slipping back in time once inside the house and garden.It is the kind of place you almost want to keep secret.
Book this house!!! It’s a vibe - an actual experience, not just a place to stay.I made the last-minute decision to lose money on my last 2 nights in Tokyo so I could explore down south. After the LONG Tokyo days, a private onsen sounded wonderful. I got so much more.This home is stunning!!! I would move there in a heartbeat - the view while soaking in the onsen is incredible. Spacious bathroom, beautiful shower, convenient laundry room, exceptional design, comfy linens and towels - healing for the soul. Wish I was a better photographer because I was drooling over every corner.We even cooked a meal and it was lovely navigating the kitchen.The hosts are INCREDIBLE; they went above and beyond and were the best I’ve ever had - and I’m a host with SUPER high expectations.Easy walk to Kinomiya station with a cute and delish across the street.Uber is the best mode of transport.We traveled to Izu Teddy Bear Musuem and Kawazu for cherry blossoms. It was easy to do by train from the house.Book it!
夫婦で年始に宿泊しました。到着時にスタッフの方が丁寧に宿の説明をしてくださり、その後は自分たちのペースで自由に過ごせるスタイルだったのがとても良かったです。キッチンや洗濯乾燥機が完備されていて、まるで家のようにリラックスして滞在できました。お風呂からは海が見え、夕日も朝日も本当に綺麗で、毎日特別な時間を過ごせました。アメニティのシャンプーがukaで、髪の毛がトゥルントゥルンになったのも嬉しかったポイントです。床暖房が入っているので、冬でも室内はとても暖かく、寒さを感じることなく快適でした。

Pure Japanese authenticity with modern comfort. This beautifully renovated house is a dream. The kitchen is fully stocked with toptier Japanese tools, and a morning on the sunlit engawa is pure relaxation. The 100% free-flow onsen bath is the perfect way to refresh or end the day. I only stayed a few days but would love to come back for a longer stay.
daidai was as expected - a gorgeous traditional Japanese home from over a hundred years ago. It has been tastefully renovated - leaving beautiful details behind like the thin, curved glass from that era, but tastefully installing a lovely full kitchen. Being a Japanese home from that era it has no insulation and gaps let in not just a breeze but the occasional bug. Several art pieces scattered through the home are from local artists and seasonally changed (so daidai's manager says). The home is situated amongst trees and has a gorgeous relaxing onsen (hot spring). If you are looking to recharge while bathing in a beautiful traditional home, you won't be disappointed. The perfect place to leisurely read or work on your next book.
友人と宿泊しましたが、本当に最高でした！ 古民家の雰囲気を残しつつ、とてもきれいで快適。温泉も源泉かけ流しで気持ちよく、のんびり癒されました。静かに過ごせるのも◎ 街までも歩いていけて、とても便利でした。またぜひ来たいです！

we came to Atami from Hawaii and we were so impressed with the aloha we were given when we stayed at the DaiDai house. i can tell the owners put a lot of good energy and passion into making this place so original, but then added a few amenities to really take it to another level. We were so relaxed here and able to unplug and enjoy the natural hot spring water with the windows open to the fresh air. and of course being able to go from the hot spring water to the cold plunge and back and enjoy the large shower....just amazing...and its so private. we could walk to the market for shopping which was really convenient too. i would highly recommend staying here if you want to experience a genuine Kominka House and the best private natural hot spring experience.
