Kafurin Park in Itoshima is a hidden gem for those who know it and for people living nearby.It is spacious and surrounded by a beautiful bamboo forest. There aren’t many amenities, but the park has just enough to spend several enjoyable hours if you like sports and nature. There is a clean toilet, a small playground for young children, and a wooden house with two tables and benches around it. The park is often quiet and empty, so finding a place to sit and enjoy a bento is usually easy.I spent many weekends here, and my son practically grew up in this park — I have countless photos to prove it. Once a month, there is a free event for children packed with fun activities: cleaning the pond and playing in the water in summer, or making baked marshmallows and bekko-ame during the colder seasons. The open field is large enough for ball games, and on weekdays you’ll often see older residents enjoying ground golf. Vending machine was installed recently so now you can even get a drink.If you are looking for a place to spend time with small kids, sit quietly close to nature, or meet locals and even a few foreigners, this park is well worth a visit.
