I walked a kilometer to finally find a place to eat after checking into the guesthouse outside of Jizoji. The tiny place is run by a couple very engaged in community service (witnessed by many pictures, awards and plaques on the wall) and provides simple food. The only customer and I talked over Google translate and we had a great time. It's one of those rare finds in Japanese countryside where travellers, especially henro-sans receive warm welcome and traditional hospitality.

NO PHOTOS and don’t trust Google Maps.Google Maps shows the home as the restaurant. I saw that the door was ajar and went inside (not realizing the restaurant was directly behind me.) The man who was there saw my phone, which had google maps open. Another reviewer had post some pictures, one of which is of a certificate, and he asked me to delete the photo… I had a really hard time explaining that I don’t control Google. Long story short, the police resolved the issue. I hold no malice towards the owners, as they simply do not understand the intent. Please patronize their restaurant if you get the chance and have an extra beer for me. And NO PHOTOS! If you read this, please report the photo with the certificate, so that google removes it! 🙏
