That’s it!” – Richard Kamler.What started as a quiet effort to clean up an abandoned lot has blossomed into a meaningful community project. Since 2021, volunteers have worked anonymously—sometimes at night, dressed in workman outfits—to care for a lone cherry tree.This once-overgrown space is transformed. To honor the 111th birthday of beloved local author Nankichi Niimi, we gathered with community members to weed, pick up trash, and illuminate the tree with 11 lanterns, inspired by "Ojisan no Lamp". Handcrafted from recycled wood, a birdhouse now hangs in its branches, symbolizing renewal and hope.We see this place evolve each year. What was once an ignored patch of land is now a tiny sanctuary embraced by the local community.
