Amazing bar
My friends and I were walking around and we stumbled upon Bar Pontos by chance. The owner welcomed us in with open arms (we were a group of 4 American young adults). He willingly chatted with us in English and we had a blast conversing with him. He has owned this bar for 22 years and has been bartending most of his life. Also, his family has lived in Kyoto for generations and he has lived here his whole life, so it was incredible to hear his stories about the city itself from his point of view. The drinks were so reasonably priced and the atmosphere was cozy. I would highly recommend coming in if you’re looking to have a drink and an authentic conversation with a local!
Absolutely loved this hidden gem of a bar! My wife and I stumbled upon this cozy spot, and it did not disappoint. The bartender was friendly and went out of his way to chat with us in English. He introduced us to some fantastic Japanese whiskey and crafted two delicious cocktails. Though small, the atmosphere was warm and inviting—perfect for a memorable night out.

Best bar experience I had while recently visiting Kyoto. This is the kind of experience that you used to be able to have in Golden Gai in Tokyo years ago before the tourist explosion. Just perfect atmosphere and good whiskey.
