A Hidden Gem in Kyoto – The Soulful Pottery of Hirai-sanThis was our second time visiting Kyoto, and once again, we were drawn back to the tranquil and inspiring gallery of Hirai-san – a truly special place that lingers in the heart long after you leave. Hirai-san describes himself modestly as a hobbyist, but don’t let that humble label fool you. His pottery, especially his matcha cups, are nothing short of extraordinary – each piece is a quiet masterpiece, filled with emotion, precision, and deep reverence for the art.The textures, the glazes, the balance – every cup seems to carry a story, a breath of nature, and the calm of Kyoto’s timeless spirit. His work has a soulful power that speaks to you without words.Beyond the beauty of his craft, what truly sets this experience apart is Hirai-san himself. He is a warm, gracious host who welcomes you not as a customer, but as a special guest. His sincerity, humility, and quiet passion create an atmosphere that is both peaceful and deeply moving.Thank you, Hirai-san, for sharing your art and spirit with us once again. We look forward to returning – your gallery is one of Kyoto’s most beautiful secrets.
This is an interesting pottery gallery run by a kind husband and wife.If you have enough time, you can also try your hand at making pottery. This is a one-of-a-kind shop that sells handmade pottery.

Kyoto Hidden Gem!We came to buy pottery. We were enchanted by the handcrafted plates. The owner invited us to his house and offered us matcha and homemade cookies. We had a very nice conversation with his wife. They are amazing people. It was the best experience in Japan for us!
