Found everything we were looking for. Bought an antique fan & got lots of infos about the history of Japan and its eras/periods. Were interested in an authentic Edo period Samurai armour, did not end up buying it, but it's a great place to get one for anyone who's interested.Super friendly owner and employees.
外国人の店員の日本刀の扱いがよろしくない場面が見られた。鞘を棚にぶつけるなど、竹光なのに飛沫がダメなど、わかったフリの感じがした。しっかりと教育をしてほしい。
We received truly exceptional service from the European staff member today when I popped in with my partner. Despite not looking to buy any high ticket items, we were looked after the entire time while we were browsing, and we ended up leaving with a woodblock print (of which they have a great selection). He truly went above and beyond by giving us a free umbrella which saved the print on its way home with us! Would recommend to anyone looking for Japanese antiquities, and will be back again!
★★★★★I cannot recommend Hatsune Antiques highly enough.Purchasing an authentic Japanese katana from Kyoto and having it shipped safely to Europe seemed like a daunting process at first, but the team at Hatsune Antiques made every step remarkably smooth and reassuring. Their professionalism and expertise from Rie Misaki expertise, and attention to detail were exceptional from beginning to end. What impressed me most was the level of care they dedicated to communication and follow-up. They kept me informed throughout the entire process, promptly answered every question, provided detailed guidance regarding preservation and maintenance, and even followed up on shipping updates to ensure everything was progressing correctly. It was clear that they were not simply selling an item; they were helping to preserve and pass on an important piece of Japanese history and craftsmanship. Their respect for the cultural significance of the sword was evident in every interaction. The team also provided maintenance instructions, educational resources, and display recommendations, demonstrating a genuine commitment to helping collectors properly care for their acquisitions long after the sale is completed.I am deeply grateful for their kindness, patience, and dedication. It has been a pleasure working with them, and I would confidently recommend Hatsune Antiques to anyone interested in Japanese antiques, art, or historical swords. Thank you for helping bring a treasured piece of Japanese heritage from Kyoto to its new home in Europe.
Love this place it was a fantastic experience. I bought a Katana can't wait to get! The staff was very polite and honest very helpful couldn't meet better people.
An amazing shop with a fantastic selection of art pieces and very helpful staff. They even shipped my item to my home in the UK without any issues. Highly recommended!
Bought 2 items from this antique store asked a bunch of questions and they answered everyone. The best antique store in kyoto!
Authentic pieces of Japanese art and historyAn amazing shop in gion not far from the photo spots and kiyomizu temple. It’s like a museum of some of the coolest traditional Japanese items you can find, and they’re all for sale! The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend it, some of the most impressive things I saw in Kyoto

Hatsune is my favourite store on Planet Earth. I have visited on 4 occasions during 2 trips to Japan. Sitting here in my home in Vancouver, even now I can recall the smell of the place. The smell of history, and art, and beauty, and the ugliness caused by gorgeous blades. I wish I was there right now, talking to my favourite staff member Emiko and looking at swords and tsuba and kabuto and woodblock prints and dozens more items that you can look at and see the stories jumping off of them.I have purchased 2 items at Hatsune. The first was a stunning wakizashi (medium sword) by Fujiwara Masahiro, made some 300+ years ago. Holding it gives me chills, even now 18 months later. The second was a kabuto of 200+ years that ...I cried after purchasing it. These items are the culmination of 25 years of obsession with samurai and I could not be happier to have the privilege of having them in my care. All I can think about now is the next time I walk into this store and find the katana of my dreams. I can almost feel it in my hands right now, over by the sword wall, Emiko telling me of the hamon, another customer sees the blade flash in the light and asks "Whose is that?" I turn and say "Mine."
