Recommended for visitors buying and/or making your own souvenirs using yakishime method (unglazed pottery). Had a great experience with Emu-san making our own tea/matcha bowl and whisk stand as souvenirs for our trip (note: she fires up the kiln 3 times a year so you will not be able to take your ceramic away immediately, and will have to find a proxy/courier yourself to send it back to your country). We used google translate to talk to each other but she was very polite and happy to talk. She even took us to her kiln nearby to show how it worked. We picked up some lovely pieces from her studio (unglazed clay, sourced locally, that is fired by a wood burning kiln). You can take the number 40 bus from Kameoka station to get to the studio.
