Tucked into a quiet neighborhood in Akabane, Shōkō-ji Temple offers a peaceful escape from the bustle, crowned by the stunning Daikannon-zō — a towering statue of the Bodhisattva Kannon that radiates calm and grace. The grounds are immaculately maintained, with shaded paths, smaller statues full of character, and just enough seating to pause and take it all in.The Kannon statue itself stands over 13 meters tall and was erected in 1977. It’s said to be a guardian for peace and safety, and it really does have a serene presence. We didn’t go inside the main hall, but the setting alone was more than enough. With the APA Hotel peeking in the background and modern Tokyo humming nearby, it’s a lovely contrast — old spirit meets new skyline.If you’re in Akabane, this is well worth a visit, especially on a sunny day with clouds rolling across the sky. Free to enter, easy to find, and photogenic from every angle.
