Truly beautiful area & house, extremely friendly host. Do not make the same mistake as me, go for more than 1 night, at least 2-3!!
The first of three nights spent in the sublime Kiso Valley. It was the most lovely traditional house kept cozy and spotless. All the Amenities one needed after a day's walk, with a Hearth centering the home and a Garden to enjoy the most serene evenings. It was a stay worthy of a journey for its own sake.
TLDR: My wife and I stayed here during our trip to Japan and the Kiso Valley for one night. This beautiful home was tremendous, only a 5-min bike ride to the Atera Valley, and was looked after by a nice older couple. 5/5 Stars would highly recommend.Details: The website lists that only a 2-night stay is possible but I emailed the hostess and got a private rate for 1-night on a Monday in late August. We arrived around 14.00 from Tsumago-juku taking a taxi which cost around ¥6,700 that can be easily grabbed from the main station. Check-in was possible right away with the elderly lady. She was beyond enjoyable and nice and we used our phones to translate which was not a problem. The house has a kitchen, sitting room, bedroom, and a couple other areas as well including a terrace to sit outside. The bedroom has air conditioning and the beds and pillows were very cozy. You can’t rent E-bikes for ¥1,000 a person which we did. They are a bit small but worked great as the entrance to the Atera Valley is only a 5-min bike Ride away and it makes it easy to bike the valley as it is uphill with no cars allowed in the summer. The house is a 15min walk to the train station and while we booked our tickets in advance the ticket counter was open at 7:00am for the train we caught. There are a couple restaurants in the area or a convince store that is also a 5-min bike ride away. All-in-all we would stay here again and wish we could have stayed longer.

Stayed in miwa House for one night while doing the Nakasendo trail, as I arriver there from Tsumago and needed to spend one night befor going to Yabuhara.First of the house. Amazing old house, with a few renovations, but the soul is old and beautiful. In the center after the genkan is the irori. Beautiful. Tatami mats everywhere and shoji doors. Nice bathroom and toilet, reformed. A full functional kitchen if you are a family and need to cook.But the best part was Misa-san. Miwa's mother. She is delightful. Was very happy that I could spak japanese and was supercurious about me. Explained to me everything that needed to be explained, and the next morning she brought me cake for breakfast. we spent some time talking as the night before was heavy rain and the train swere cancelled for a while that morning. After trains resumed and I left, went to a cafe to have a coffe and somehow she found me. She forgot to ask me for my instagra, and gave me hers, as she does ikeaba everyday and post it there.All in all amazing experience, and the place and location are just half of it. Wish the best of everything for Misa-san and Miwa.
