Skip the other Matcha shops - this place is ALL YOU NEED! They were so lovely, and nobody was in the shop when I went. After, I went to a more “popular” one and couldn’t hardly walk because of all the people. The prices were much higher than this shop, and matcha didn’t taste as good.Absolutely loved the family that runs it, and wish I bought more matcha. Seriously - don’t skip this spot if you go to Uji and want to buy matcha. They grind it fresh in the shop, and it smells absolutely lovely in there. They also make you a fresh cup of matcha while you wait for them to package your matcha.

family run tea shop, bought some matcha and tea, the latter of which they kindly made for us to try while we were waiting for our matcha to be packaged. even though there was a language barrier as they dont speak english, they still try to strike up some conversation, and it would be helpful to have google translate on hand, especially if you have questions as they are helpful in answering any questions about their tea.really friendly and warm atmosphere, away from the bustle of the main tourist streets. easily my favourite tea purchase and shop of my trip. i also appreciate that they wrapped my matcha tins and tea packets individually in wrapping paper without asking, which none of the other tea / matcha shops did for me.i think the essence of omotenashi sometimes feels like its fading in the face of overtourism in japan and this is seen in uji with the matcha frenzy recently, but this shop offers a calm respite to that.
