「清廉の武将 畠山重忠」像の特徴
御岳山の清廉の武将像は、絶景の紅葉が楽しめるスポットです。

御嶽神社の境内にある武士の鑑畠山重忠公の石像は躍動感があって都内にある楠木正成公の石像並みに立派です畠山重忠公は前の大河ドラマ鎌倉殿の13人にも登場した人物で歴史好きな方や大河ファンの方も来てみることを勧めます。
『清廉の武将 畠山重忠』像English translation is under the Japanese script.この騎馬像は、昭和56年（1981）の武蔵御嶽神社酉年式年大祭（通称日の出祭）の記念事業として、また、去る昭和50年（1975）は同大祭再興100周年の節目であったことも踏まえて、浄財を広く求め、高名な彫刻家北村西望翁に像の製作を依頼して造営されたものです。像主には、同神社に縁があり、西望翁も敬慕する源平時代の武蔵武士畠山重忠公を取り上げ、その着用する鎧および佩用する太刀は、重忠公自身が同神社に奉納したとされる赤糸威大鎧、俱利伽羅の大太刀がモチーフとなっています。なお、右手にもつ鞭は設計段階では軍配であったそうです。像高295cm、重さ1.7t。このように大きな像となるため、同神社の狭く急峻な参道を陸路で輸送することが不可能なため、ヘリコプターで宙吊りし麓から一気に運び込むこととなり、軽量化のためにブロンズ（青銅）ではなくアルミニウムが素材として選ばれました。公共彫刻がヘリコプターで運ばれたのは、国内の歴史上初といわれています。西望翁にとっても重要な大作のひとつであり、同じ像が翁のアトリエがありました井之頭公園の彫刻館にも、長崎平和祈念像と並置されています。同館には、製作時の雛型並びに石膏原型も展示されています。******************************************************Statue of "Shigetada Hatakeyama, a military commander of great integrity (清廉の武将 畠山重忠)"This equestrian statue was built in 1981 as a memorial event for the Musashi Mitake Shrine's major festival, held once every 12 years, and in 1975 as the 100th anniversary of the revival of the annual spring festival (commonly known as the Sunrise Festival). Based on this, it was built by requesting the famous sculptor Seibo Kitamura (北村西望, 1884-1987) to create the statue in search of a wide range of wealth. The person of the figure is Shigetada Hatakeyama (畠山重忠,) a samurai in Musashi province (a former prefectural name including Saitama, Tokyo, and a part of Kanagawa) from the Genpei period (A.D.12-13c) who is related to the shrine and admired by Seibo. The motifs of the armor and a sword, which the samurai is wearing, are the red thread armor and the super large sword. They are the offerings he made to the shrine and are exhibited in the treasure house behind the statue. The statue has a height of 295cm weight of 1.7t. Due to its size, it was impossible to transport it by land along the narrow and steep approach to the shrine. Then, it was transported by helicopter, and aluminum was chosen as a material to make its weight light for helicopter. It is the first time in the country's history that a public sculpture was transported by helicopter. It is one of the important masterpieces of Seibo, and the same statue is placed side by side with the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Statue (長崎平和祈念像) in the sculpture hall of Inokashira Park (井の頭公園彫刻館,) where Seibo had his studio. The model used during production, and the plaster prototype are also exhibited in the same museum.
紅葉がマックスで見応え十分でした。観光客大勢でしたが動けないほどの人数ではなかったので、のんびり紅葉観光出来ました！

武蔵御嶽神社の宝物殿の前にある畠山重忠の像は北村西望の作だそうです。畠山重忠は武士の鑑と板東の雄として武蔵御嶽神社に関わりの深い人物です。
