I had an amazing experience at Yuasa Driving School in Wakayama and I can confidently say this is one of the best driving schools in Japan. A huge thank you to my instructor, Kenji, who is an outstanding teacher. His English is extremely fluent, so communication was never a problem, and his teaching style is fun, clear, and never boring. He explains everything in a simple and easy way, which helped me feel confident from the beginning. Thanks to his guidance and patience, I was able to pass my driving test quickly and smoothly. I highly recommend Yuasa Driving School to anyone looking for professional, friendly, and high-quality driving lessons.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The overall experience was great. I was able to obtain my driving license in the shortest time possible (a little under 1 month). Kenji was an excellent teacher, always super attentive and supportive through the entire process. I'm more than satisfies with the results. Definitely it was the best decision I made this year. I'm thankful with all the staff and hope they keep the hard work to help more foreigners in kansai to get their driving license.
I live in Osaka and had a chance to covert my U.S. license to a Japanese one but the issue was, I kept getting declined because the license center in Sakai claimed I did not have sufficient proof of me staying in the US for at least 3 months after getting my license (even though I presented my original graduation diploma, passport stamps, and an original certificate of when I got my US license). I also was unable to get an appointment at Kadoma because they only allow you to call every two weeks and they are opened for 2 hours, which is ridiculous.I had so many questions regarding the conversion from the beginning and without making any payments, Kenji explained everything to me through 2 separate phone calls, each lasting 30 minutes minimum.In the end, I gave up with the conversion and decided to start from scratch. The price is slightly cheaper than Osaka and with less people and more availability, I got my Japanese license in just a month! If you pass everything in 1 try and do all the lessons and exams back to back, you literally can get your license in less than 2 weeks even.Kenji speaks fluent English so there won’t be any issues with communication. Though I also recommend to take some lessons in Japanese because in the actual exams, everything is conducted in Japanese. He will also provide you with all the documentations and course videos you’ll need so there’s no need to worry about anything except studying.Highly highly recommended even for those who live far away if you don’t want to waste time getting rejected by the license center for a conversion.

I recently finished getting driving license through my prefectural driving license center. One thing I must say is be patient with yourself and the teachers at Yuasa Driving School. Yes, there is an average time frame for when you can expect to get your license but don't allow that time frame to stress you out.It was a long 7 months going back and forth between Wakayama and Tottori but the rewards far outweighed the resources spent traveling between the two prefectures. Especially because now my life is so much more convenient now that I can use my own car everyday.I was mainly taught by both Kenji (he used English to instruct me during our lessons) and some Japanese instructors. It's very helpful to know basic Japanese especially instructions that are in relation to road rules (turn left, turn right, go straight, make a right/left turn after the stop light, please make a stop here). Don't hesitate to ask questions (to the instructors at Yuasa Driving School) and to make sure that you understand everything you will need to do at your respective license center where you take your exams.I spent longer than the average student (who enrolls at this school) to get my driver's license but it was all worth it in the end.
I joined private lesson for Gaimen Kirikae license conversion. Even I have zero experience with MT car, instructor Kenji sensei who speaks perfect English patiently and strictly taught me to pass driving test in less than 5 hours of practice. Honestly I felt Yuasa instructor was stricter than examiner. He also guided for on-the-road practice to fully Japanese road sign and driving manner. The school is located 35 minutes distance by train. Highly recommended.
Excellent Driving School. I totally enjoyed my experience on learning how to Drive from scratch with the help of my amazing Instructors and of course to Kenji San. He gives clear, easy to follow instructions and very straight forward. He is also very patient and has a good sense of humour which helps me with my nervousness. He is very committed as he makes time for his students. A great experience overall. Wether you are a new learner or simply brushing up, I highly recommend you to check out this place. It may sound weird but I will totally miss my lessons here ~
Kenji San and his mother are a delight to converse with (in Japanese and English) and organize my refresher with them before taking the driving test. Response is quick, detailed and they will support you through the written and driving tests in great detail not simply to pass but to be a better driver. If you are around the Wakayama area and need a place to study how to drive from scratch or do a refresher with, they come highly recommended. 110%

I attended a two hour driving practice with Instructor Kenji in February 2025. This was a remarkable experience. As a foreigner living and working in this country, whose language skills are not great, this driving school was a godsend. Kenji is a fantastic person and we were able to communicate easily enough in English. He is a very thorough person.I failed my driving test once. When I requested to attend this school for a two hour session, he called me and had me explain what happened in my exam and what I wanted out of the two hour experience. I loved that.During the session he was very thorough in his explanations. We practiced so much so that I may retain all the particular nuances Japanese driving tests require of you.Whether you are Japanese or a foreigner, do take the time to reach out to this school and attend. It increases your chances of passing on the first attempt.
