世継地蔵大菩薩の特徴
昔からの地蔵菩薩信仰が根付く、静かな境内の雰囲気。
高さ約2メートルの立像、世継地蔵が見どころの地蔵堂です。
観光客が訪れないローカルな場所で、特別な体験ができます。
世継地蔵尊：石像・世継地蔵は高さ約2メートルの立像で、1871年（明治4年）に再建された地蔵堂に安置されてます。ちなみに世継地蔵尊は江戸時代の火災に見舞われたそうです。なおよだれかけ絵馬は赤ん坊のよだれ掛けの形になるように上下逆さまに吊るされるそうです。上徳寺には子授けに関する伝承がいくつか残されています。1656年（明暦3年）に八幡の清水という者が子供を亡くしたことから世継ぎが生まれるようにと祈願しました。7日目の夜に地蔵が石に刻んで祈願するようにと告げ、地蔵と地蔵を祀る堂を建てると世継ぎを授かり、子孫繁栄したというものです。また1720年（享保5年）頃に住職の夢の中に地蔵が現れ、子授け・子孫繁栄・家運長久のお告げがあったとも言われいます。なお上徳寺の御詠歌は「ありがたや めぐみふかきを 千代かけて いゑの世つぎを まもるみほとけ」です。護摩はバラモン教の宗教儀礼が起源とされ、主に天台宗・真言宗で行われています。護摩には護摩壇に火を点けて護摩木を焚いて祈願する外護摩と心の中の煩悩などを心の火で焼き払う内護摩などがあるそうです。上徳寺世継地蔵尊大祭上徳寺世継地蔵尊大祭（よつぎじぞうそんたいさい）・世継地蔵尊功徳日大祭（よつぎじぞうそんくどくびたいさい）では1億日分の功徳が授かると言われる一億劫日功徳日（いちおくこうじつくどくび）に世継地蔵の功徳を称え、子授け・招福などを祈願します。なお世継地蔵尊大祭では柴灯護摩供（さいとうおおごまく）が行われます。柴灯護摩供では東西南北と天地から邪気が入らないように弓から矢を放つ法弓の儀（ほうきゅうのぎ）などが行われ、信者などの願いが込められた護摩木（ごまぎ）を護摩壇で焚き上げ、祈願成就を願います。他にも身代わり地蔵尊、延命地蔵、はがため地藏があります。Seke Jizo:The stone statue Seke Jizo is a standing statue about 2 meters tall, and is enshrined in the Jizo Hall, which was rebuilt in 1871 (Meiji 4). Incidentally, Seke Jizo was destroyed in a fire during the Edo period. The bib ema is hung upside down to form the shape of a baby's bib.Jotoku-ji Temple has several legends about child-granting. In 1656 (Meireki 3), a man named Hachiman no Shimizu lost his child and prayed for an heir. On the seventh night, Jizo told him to carve the stone and pray, and when he built Jizo and a hall to worship him, he was granted an heir and his descendants prospered. It is also said that around 1720 (Kyoho 5), Jizo appeared in the head priest's dream and was told that he would be granted a child, his descendants would prosper, and his family would have lasting fortunes. The hymn of Jotoku-ji Temple is "Thank you, O LORD, for your deep blessings, for a thousand generations, O Lord Buddha, who protects the succession of the family."Goma is said to have originated from the religious rituals of Brahmanism, and is mainly performed in the Tendai and Shingon sects. There are two types of goma: outer goma, where a fire is lit on the goma altar and goma wood is burned to pray, and inner goma, where earthly desires are burned away with the fire of the heart.Jotoku-ji Temple Sekei Jizo Son Grand FestivalAt the Jotoku-ji Temple Sekei Jizo Son Grand Festival and Sekei Jizo Son Merit Day Festival, which are held on Ichioku Kouji Tsukudokubi, when it is said that 100 million days' worth of merit is bestowed, Sekei Jizo's merits are praised and prayers are made for the granting of children and good fortune. In addition, the Saito Oogoma Ceremony is held at the Yotsugi Jizo-son Grand Festival. During the Saito Oogoma Ceremony, arrows are fired from bows to ward off evil spirits from the four directions: east, west, north, south, heaven and earth. Gomagi sticks containing the wishes of believers are burned on the goma altar, and prayers are made for the fulfillment of prayers.Other statues that can be found here include the Substitute Jizo, the Enmei Jizo, and the Hagatame Jizo.
観光客は先ず来ないローカルな場所、昔からの地蔵菩薩信仰の強さを感じる境内。丁度、地蔵盆の時期、町の子供達で賑わうのでしょうね。
世継地蔵さま子孫は授かり有難いのではこざいますが近ごろ御結婚されない若者が少し増えて居ります、何とか世継を繋ぐ為にも育先の縁も賜らん事を。
上徳寺 には、たくさんのお地蔵様が祀られています。江戸時代より安産と子授けで知られているのが「世継地蔵」になります。2023年3月 京都冬の旅にて公開されていてお堂の中に入れて頂け、真正面と真横からですが真近くで拝見出来ました。

周辺のオススメ
2024年12月レンタサイクルを借りて市中の観光をした後の夕刻、 京都駅方面の宿泊先ホテルへの帰り道で 偶然お寺を見つけました。息子が結婚して間もない頃でしたので、どうか いつかは元気な赤ちゃんが生まれて来てくれますようにと お願いをしました。2026年5月お陰様にて 前年末に息子夫婦に赤ちゃんが誕生して 日々健康に育っています。いつかまた京都に旅行したら こちらにお礼のお参りをしたいと思っていましたが、 また来る事が出来て 報告とお礼のお参りを 再びホテルへの帰り道に立ち寄りました。17時を廻った時刻でしたが 偶然か門が開いていたので 参拝できて良かったです。世継ぎさん ありがとうございますこれからも 見守ってくださいますようにお寺の門の前の道路は 斜め道で、 道の遠く向こう側に 京都タワーが丁度見えます。京都駅を目指すのに ピッタリの道で素晴らしいです。
