吉弘第二温泉の特徴
温泉まつり開催時には、頻繁に無料解放されるお得感満載です。
石垣西に位置する、別府市ならではの温泉地です。
地元の人々に愛される、温かい雰囲気が魅力です。
Onsen ONLY for the union members. It opens sometimes for the public (free entrance) for a few days and certain hours during the Beppu onsen festival and that's how I managed to bathe. Check out the onsen festival webpage if you are planning to visit. You need to bring your own towel and shampoos, no parking. There are two separate buildings for each gender. The changing area is separated from the bathtub so you can't see your stuff while bathing. The tub is medium to big size, rectangle shape with rounded corners, is a bit deeper than the usual in Beppu, has plenty of space to wash up around it and is made of beautiful light blue tiles. It seems to be really busy, there were many locals bathing when I visited, felt a bit like intruding them, even though they didn't talk to me they all greeted hello and farewell when I greeted them.

周辺のオススメ
吉弘温泉組合には第一温泉(「吉弘温泉前」のバス停まであります)と第二温泉があるのですが、第一温泉は堀田温泉からの引き湯で、第二温泉は独自の泉源を利用しています。こちらは亀川四の湯に近い優しい泉質で、普段使いするには第二温泉の方がお勧めです。石垣エリアが落ち着いた住宅地のため、こちらの共同温泉は組合員専用で、基本的に一般利用が出来ないガチの「ジモ泉」です。では、一般が入浴する機会がないのかというとそうでもなくて、毎年4月初めに開催される(2020年、2021年は中止されました)温泉祭りの際に無料で開放されます。ここの共同温泉の場合、組合員は専用の桶を使うシステムのため、施設内に桶の備え付けがありません。そのため無料開放時に一般の方が入浴される際は桶を持参されることをお勧めします。個人的には吉弘第二温泉は別府八湯の中でも好みの泉質です。熱すぎないのもいいですね。
