Applied for a Schengen visa at the Bulgarian Embassy, and it was a great experience.You have to make a reservation either by phone or e-mail. They spoke not only great English but also great Japanese. On the day of my reservation/application, I went early but there was no one outside the gates. So, I just waited till about the time of my reservation but no one still came to open the gates, so I just pressed the intercom and they opened the automatic gates just enough for me to get in.Visa applications were accepted in a very small room towards the middle of the front of the building. There were a lot of travel brochures and a couple of guide books in the room. After some questions from the consulate/embassy staff to confirm details of my trip, she accepted my passport, application form, photo, and supporting documents. She went inside for around 25 minutes, and came back to take my fingerprints and photo. Afterwards, I paid the visa application fee. Everything was done in less than an hour.Staff said it would take around 10 business days, but my visa was granted in around 5.The whole time, staff on the phone and in person were super respectful but friendly at the same time. They were also smiling, which helps create a nice atmosphere, esp. for people who are a bit nervous whether they had prepared everything needed to make the application. The interaction with the embassy makes me excited for my trip to the country even more!
