(出典:御霊神社パンフレットより掲載)"Goryo-san and Ichihatsu"Welcome to the Goryo Shrine. Without further ado, let me explain about Goryō-san and Ichihatsu."First of all, do you know the flower called "Ichihatsu"?"It was named "Ichihatsu" because it blooms the earliest among the flowers of the Iridaceae family. Every year, it begins to bloom around the end of February and reaches full bloom around the beginning of May. I also write Kazuya and Tobio. Since ancient times, it has been used as a flower to ward off fire and wind, and was planted on the ridges of the roofs of houses. (In English, it is also called roof iris.) It is very similar to Kakitsubata, but Ichihatsu grows on land, not near water. Our company carefully nurtures this ichihatsu in the outer moat between the precincts and the road outside. "Why does Goryo grow ichihatsu in the outer moat?" Actually, there is such a story."Kakitsubata, Korin-san, and Ichihatsu"As some of you may have noticed while walking around the grounds of our company, there are traces of the waterway not only in the outer moat but also behind the main shrine. Before the war, water actually flowed. The waterway was drawn from the upper reaches of the Kamo River, passed through our company, then passed through the precincts of Shokokuji Temple and flowed to the Imperial Palace. This river is called Imade River (also known as Nakagawa), and it remains as the name of the street today. There is a record that when the waterway was flowing, the outer moat of our company was growing in clusters of seasonally blooming irises. Also, Korin Ogata, who is famous for the National Treasure "Iris flower painting" (pictured below) or as the founder of the Rinpa school. Actually, in the Edo period, this person's mansion was located 50 meters north of our company. Of course, you must have seen our Du Luo. It is quite possible that our company's Towaka influences the production of Iris flower paintings. For this reason, about 20 years ago after the dry moat was established, volunteers from the local shrine parishioners planted a terrestrial ichihatsu that resembled Moriwaka in shape, creating a view that reminds us of the past. was revived.(Source: published from Goryo Shrine pamphlet)
