We had a delightful experience at Cocoroya - we recommend it highly. The owner, a chef and previous restaurant owner, was a pleasure to speak with. We ourselves are Canadian foodies and knowledgeable about Japanese knives, and with his help we selected a lovely petty knife that we put to use immediately. Just talking to the owner is worth the visit, and buying a knife is icing on the cake.

Such a gem! I visited this shop many years ago, when it was located in lower Hirafu, and I’ve been looking for it since.Very nice selection of new and used knives, some antique pottery, kokeshi (traditional wooden dolls), etc. The owner is really nice and friendly.
If you’d like an authentic Hokkaido handmade gift including incredible Japanese steel knives, this is a wonderful little store. Very knowledgeable and helpful owner who clearly takes pride in offering a fine curated collection of antiques, hand made crafted items and supports local artists.
Excellent knife store. Very nice owner who has a small but tasteful selection. Also has nice antiques and does a great sake tasting. Of our party of 4, 3 bought knives if that says anything.
Lovely store and best knife selection. I’ve been looking for a good quality knife to take home and this place had a wonderful selection. Warm and friendly service. Highly recommend.
