Had a great time visiting with a friend several times opening week, each time being more fun than the last. Ukiyo Studios, the bar's namesake, is an events and exhibition services company that helps developers and publishers showcase their games at events. The intent of the bar it seems is to be a lounge with playable video games made by indie developers Ukiyo has helped or has a connection to - but unlike the closest thing I can compare it to, Wonderville in New York, it's computer games instead of arcade, and has been compacted down to a respectable Tokyo Ginza fashion. The bar seats about 20 and is cozy like most Japanese city drinking establishments.Drinks were strong, many are sweet, and from what I've researched afterwards - priced appropriately for a Ginza lounge. In particular they had branded drinks that were named after video games Ukiyo partnered with, and their special preparation commanded a price of 2500 yen; more conventional drinks and were comparatively less (1200-1600yen), and I've attached menu pictures of those as well. They also serve non-alcoholic drinks and pre-packaged snacks. Prices are fair for those too -- about 600-800yen.Upstairs, there is an events space on 4F.There's a showcase of some of Ukiyo's branding handiwork/merchandising that they did for their clients in the corner of the bar, and the staff were kind enough to let me store my bag in that corner when it got crowded. There's a 500y/hr charge to play the video games, but for the opening weekend, this charge was waived. The charge is also waived if you sit at the booth but don't play the games. When we visited Friday at 5pm, we were the only ones in the bar, but that would've be explained by the fact it was Business Day and Tokyo Game Show just let out. For Sunday and Monday night, I got to see a decent crowd of expats and Japanese locals. The staff speaks Japanese and English. On Sunday night, I sunk my teeth into the game "ARCTIC EGGS" and spent what felt like an hour on it, getting so engaged with it I stopped only because I felt like 10 people I fed was a good stopping point - and I made it onto the last train home in real life. For Monday night, I played "MINA THE HOLLOWER" and "DEAD AS DISCO".While this concept is just getting started, and as a customer I certainly don't know enough about what goes into getting to become a Japanese 5-star bar or attracting new business, this place will certainly be a go to when I come back to Japan.
