エゾモモンガ、クマゲラ、エゾライチョウの森何もない単なる神社だが、周辺の森は希少動物が生息する場所。クマゲラを保護する地域とされているがそもそも北海道で500羽ほどしかいない鳥なので簡単には出てこない。山頂付近にはエゾライチョウもいるらしい。3月のモモンガの季節になったらまた来てみたい。2022/05/08東京在住北海道出身旅行者。

西興部村にある西興部神社（にしおこっぺじんじゃ）に参拝。森林公園内にある中くらいの神社。近くに村役場あり。白い鳥居、石段と砂利参道。参道両側は大きなサクラ並木。老人が手入れをしていた。サクラの若木が沢山植樹してある。老人は大木に負けて若木が育たたないという。息を切らして石段を登り切る。右に自然石の手水石、驚くことに水が出る。老人に聞くと水道ではなく湧水を引いて来ているという。左に資材庫（旧社殿？）。奥に赤屋根の社殿あり。右に忠魂碑、皇紀2600年記念碑、資材庫。境内はトドマツ、エゾマツ、オンコ（イチイ）、モミジなどの巨木の森。☆祭神 ・大國魂大神(おおくにたまのおおかみ) ・大己貴大神(おおなむちのおおかみ) ・少彦名大神(すくなひこなのおおかみ)
