Tucked in the quiet residential lanes of Higashikujo Karasumacho in Minami Ward, Kyoto, I visited Kitamuki Fudo Myoo, a humble yet deeply revered local Buddhist hall rooted in centuries-old esoteric Shingon tradition.The sanctuary takes its name from its principal deity, Fudo Myoo — the unshakable guardian king of Buddhism — whose statue is enshrined facing north. This unique north-facing arrangement dates back to Heian-period beliefs: worshippers held that a north-facing Fudo Myoo would guard the southern approach to the ancient capital, dispelling calamities, evil influences and misfortune. Long tended by local neighbourhood residents, it remains entirely untouched by mass tourism, retaining an unpretentious, authentic atmosphere of quiet everyday devotion.Its compact, neatly kept grounds exude gentle meditative calm, offering a serene hidden pause close to Kyoto Station. Far more than a small roadside hall, it is a living piece of Kyoto’s grassroots spiritual heritage, preserving a lesser-known facet of the city’s ancient capital-protecting faith with quiet, enduring dignity.

長増寺（ちょうぞうじ）西山浄土宗。本尊は阿弥陀如来。北向不動明王と地蔵堂があります。
長増寺という浄土系寺院のようだが、お不動様をお祭りしているのであれば密教系だった時代があるのかもしれない。

京の九条烏丸の烏丸町に北向不動明王さんが奉られて居られます御堂が在られ益すとか確かに北向不動堂が奉られていられます御堂を確認注せて戴きました、お不動様が北に向かれてお奉り為されていられます事は、霊験あらたかなお不動様で在りますよと、高齢者の皆さんがおっしゃってごだいます、対外の不動明王さんは南を向かれてお奉り為されてごだいます、前方より光りを受けられます、礼拝為る者から光り輝いて居られる御姿で在られ益すが北向不動さまは背に光りを受けられ、光背の火炎から光り輝いて、よりいっそう明王さんの御尊顔睨み付けられて、霊験あらたかなお不動様となられまして参詣致して居る方々が信仰厚く成られますね。
