源斎岩の特徴
巨石の岩屋から眺める恵那峡の美しさが魅力的です。
戦国時代の武将、吉村源斎ゆかりの地に位置しています。
玄斎公園の駐車場から徒歩5分でアクセスしやすいです。
大きな巨石の岩屋ですここの岩の裏側から美しい恵那峡が眺められます、近くに玄斎公園に駐車場があり、そこから歩いて5分くらい戦国時代に苗木城城主遠山氏の重臣にこの地を城としていた吉村源斎という武将がいた甲斐の武田信玄は源斎の武勇と知性や人望の評判を聞きつけて自分に仕えるように求めたが、これを拒んだ。天正2年（1574年）4月中旬、武田勝頼は甲斐・信濃など5か国の兵力で東美濃に侵攻し遠山氏の城や砦を悉く攻撃した。その際に千旦林城も落城し源斎はここで最後まで戦ったという。
I didn’t know what to expect when I saw this on the map. I just saw the kanji for Iwa (岩) and thought I’d have a look-see. Glad I did!There’s a little history behind this rock formation. Turns out it was a stronghold for a military commander during the Sengoku period, Gensai Yoshimura. He was well respected and as such was approached by Shingen Takeda of Kai to join him. But he refused, which angered Shingen, so forces were sent to destroy him at this place.The rock itself has a small shrine under the huge boulder. It’s not really a cave, you can walk through but cannot continue that way as the fall is significant down to the water.To the left of the boulder is a path that leads to a lookout platform which has a beautiful view of the river below. The day I visited it was very calm so the reflections on the water were pretty with a blue sky above.

Easy boat ride. Nothing too extravagant. Has an interesting history of the rocks along the water way. Wasn’t quite what I expected.
