忠魂碑の特徴
断崖の上に建つ忠魂碑で、壮大な景観が楽しめます。
崖下には旧海軍の施設跡があり、歴史を感じられます。
英霊たちを思い、静かにお参りできる特別な場所です。
海に散った英霊たちよどうか安らかに。
断崖の上に建てられており、忠魂碑の前に行くのはちょっと危ないです、私も下から見上げました。昭和20年6月に灯台下の砲台で起きた爆発事故で、3人の作業員が亡くなった為、この忠魂碑が建てられました。
ここからは見えませんが崖下に旧海軍の施設跡あり。

A monument built on the side of a cliff on the Sadamisaki. In Showa 20, it was a lot of work to build the Third and Fourth Battery of the Sadamisaki Battery at the very tip of the cape. Due to the limitations of the time, the workers were often young, working hard with insufficient food in the heavy sea spray and winds.An accidental explosion during the Third Battery construction, underneath the lighthouse, caused the death of three of the workers. Their names are remembered on this monument. When I remember the tiny howitzer held in the batteries, I can see immediately how useless it will be to shoot at a ship, and I am filled with sadness that these three died to make such an ineffective battery. At least this monument is in a pretty location, so it can be sure they can be remembered by visitors for years to come.The way to the monument is slippery and steep, and it is easy to fall, so please take care if you want to see the monument.Actually, it is unrelated to the monument, but when I look around I can find plenty of ruins of old machinery. Is it for the military, the lighthouse, or the fish farm from later years? I can only wonder. Only 15 meters away from the monument I found a rusted gear; I wonder if it was part of the cart that could carry ammunition and supplies to the battery positions.While you take in the views of the Bungo channel, feel the smell of the sea and the blowing wind, take the time to reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of our past, and take it in slowly.Thank you.
