I want to respond to another review. It seems this person visited 10 months ago, which is when we were partially shut down due to covid restrictions, so they did not see us at our best. This person stated that teachers changed often. Actually I have worked for six years, and many of my colleagues, both Japanese and non-Japanese, have been there just as long. At the Akegoaka school, which is home to the preschool programme, almost all staff have worked at the school five years or more.We absolutely have a passion for childcare. Most of us have teaching qualifications and/or preschool experience in Japan or or our home countries. Many of us pursue CPD, even to the extent of studying abroad. We are always looking at international best practice. We have a peer observation scheme and regular whole-school discussions in order to share our knowledge and skills. Most of all, we love the children in our care, are proud when they succeed and readily collaborate to help those who may be struggling. We understand the role of secure attachment in helping a child to learn and grow.A reviewer criticised having handmade toys. Actually I am proud of that. To support children's play and communication 'in the moment', sometimes we have to provide resources 'in the moment'. If a child wants to take her baby for a walk to the shops, with all the rich play and language opportunities this presents, is it better to spend weeks sourcing and buying a toy stroller, or to spend ten minutes making one on the fly from half a milk carton and some straws? Which one supports the child and their learning right then? which teacher would you like your child to have - one who can quickly create something from nothing to support their needs, or one who has to get everything from a catalogue?I do wish that some of the families who have sent more than one child through our school would write a review rather than casual one-time visitors and the friends and relatives of one ex-employee.
