I had a five star experience for a fraction of the price I would pay in other alpine regions of the world.Upon arrival, I was promptly picked up by the host & lodge owner in a clean and comfortable shuttle van from the nearby Chikuni train station. As we made our way up the winding roads to the lodge I was astounded by the beauty of Hakuba Valley. Green trees and mountains as far as the eye can see were coupled with well maintained roads and locals living nearby. We pulled into the lodge and climbed up the porch steps to enter a beautiful and spacious entryway. After taking off our shoes, in true Japanese fashion, we entered the main living space of the lodge which serves as place to eat food, hang out, and relax. The interior of the lodge gives you a distinct mountain feel that maintains a Japanese aesthetic while not detracting from the modern conveniences found in luxury hotels. Take a minute to take in the ambiance of the location, look out the windows, enjoy the high vaulted ceilings and ask about the wooden beams found supporting the building. You'll soon come to realize that what you're feeling is actually the deep roots of the building and the materials used to construct it. Just down the hall you'll find the rooms along with a secondary loft space stocked with Japanese and English books that will help you pass the time if you're in the reading/board game mood. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. My room had a large king size bed with high ceilings that helped the air circulate thus ensuring fresh cool air flowed in from outdoors while hot air left through the window/skylight above (about 15 feet up). My room was equipped with a private bathroom and shower along with modern amenities like fast, reliable WiFi and a television equipped with an Apple TV. There were plenty of amenities that made staying in my room just as enjoyable as hanging out in the main living space. I spent the next day doing some hiking at nearby Tsugaike Nature Park. Luckily the owners had enough foresight to suggest that I take an umbrella with me. The lodge owners went the extra step and shuttled me there and then picked me up four hours later when the clear weather turned into a mountain storm. I was greeted with a warm towel and had to extend an extra special thanks because if it were not for the borrowed umbrella I would have been completely soaked.

Owned and operated by a very friendly and helpful couple, English man and Japanese wife who is an amazing chef. Located for ski in and out between Cortina and Norikura. Bus stop is close to access other Hakuba resorts. The area is quiet so don’t expect nightlife but it’s not far to Tsugaike village and Julian will take you there at 5.30. If not eating the excellent hotel offerings book other restaurants ahead of time. All the facilities are there to enjoy a ski trip, drying area, hot bath, fire, local beer on tap and a selection of wines etc. Highly recommended.
2017-2018 is the first winter season for the owners of this lodge. Stay or eat here soon, before it gets discovered and too popular to get a reservation. Tomoko and Julian are the consummate hosts; gracious, generous, hard working, and knowledgeable. Tomoko’s food is amazing. We ate dinner here 3 times during our stay. Once was just a quick late night meal after we returned late. I didn’t know simple teriyaki could be so good. Another night we spent almost 3 hours going through a seven course tasting menu of new and traditional Japanese dishes made with mostly local ingredients. Tomoko made and served every dish with such care; a great experience! Julian arranged a flight of local sakes and taught us background on each one. It is worth eating here even if you’re not staying at the lodge. The lodge is beautiful. If part of your reason for visiting Japan is enjoying the architecture and beautiful buildings then this lodge is perfect. The couple who built it were an architect and a designer and it shows in the structure and the lighting. It’s a wonderful space. Also, the rooms are very large, the beds comfortable, and the amenities complete.
Momiji is beautifully restored. The rooms are all spacious and beautiful. The hosts, Julian and Tomoko, are very helpful and learned about the area. Try the home cooked Japanese meals for a truly wonderful treat, even if you are not staying here. The Inn is ski in, ski out, connecting you to Cortina and Norikura. As it is on the North side of the valley, it receives much more snow than the areas to the south. Breakfast is included and is wonderful, as is the coffee. Overall it was a great experience to be here, and we felt spoiled buy the luxury they provided.

クリス&エリ(原文)This was the second time I stayed at Jules u0026 Tomoko Chans Lodge and can honestly say It was as good if not better than the first. I took my wife with me and she was as impressed as as I was the first time. The room we had this time was up to the same standard as the last. Spotlessly clean and spacious. The bed mattress was great. Very comfortable and we both slept like logs. ( excuse the pun ). Jules being the excellent host helping out with information on where to go snowboarding and Tomoko creating the most amazing dinner in the evenings and a hearty breakfast to start each day. During the evenings we relaxed by the log burner and enjoyed the peace and tranquility that surrounds the lodge itself. Even had a chance to catch up with Jules and Tomoko on our last day and my wife Eri soon hit it off both being artists in their own right. I can't express how much of a nice place this is to stay and will most definitely return again next year. Thank you again Julian and Tomoko for making our stay a comfortable and relaxing one and contributing to another fabulous tripto Hakuba. see you next year. Chris u0026 Eri
