京都市内でufj窓口にも御用がある場合はこちらがお勧め今では少なくなったしっかりとした規模感のある支店。

せめて他の場所を提示するとかしてほしかった。

If you are a student/worker in Kyoto University and live near the campus, this is probably the best 'Metropolitan Bank(都市銀行)' that you can regularly visit from your area of residence. Too bad, because this place, especially for a Japanese bank, has some poor service; the waiting line is pretty long, you will be kept waiting(I was, for thirty minutes, perhaps because I was a foreigner) even when there aren't many people ahead of you, and the bankers are not as friendly as those in the 'Local Banks' in the area like Kyoto Bank or Shiga Bank. Of course, there are services that you can apply for only at a mega bank like the UFJ such as the debit card and credit cards even for foreign students, but if you do not use cards that much or have a credit card issued in your home country, I would still recommend using the Local Banks or the Yuucho Bank near Hyakumanben area or inside the Kyoto University hospital.If you start your study in Kyoto but plan to move around in Japan, this is probably your best bet. Or even if you are planning to do that but totally hate this Shogoin branch(kind of like I did), you could take the bus to Shijo-karasuma from time to time to visit the SMB or Mizuho there. If not, I would recommend one of the local banks... the Kyoto Bank right across the street is definitely a fascinating choice... or even the Yuucho, although the Yuucho feels rather bureaucratic and not all branches of Yuucho have English support. I currently give the UFJ two stars, but I might visit it a few more times and improve its rating to 3 stars if I feel that the waiting time is somewhat better at different times.EDIT: I updated my review to 3 stars after 3 months of using this UFJ bank, because there are several definite advantages to using a UFJ bank compared to a 'local' bank like Kyogin or Shigagin.- First I mentioned a debit card, but after 2 long months, they issued me a credit card. Considering how difficult it is to get one in Japan without a credit history, this is an absolute advantage that should give this place 5 stars immediately if it weren't for their halfhearted attitude. It did not include the 'Cashing' option but who cares. I don't 'Cash'.- Second is how convenient it is when you travel, to Tokyo in particular. There is one branch of Kyoto Bank and Shiga Bank each in Tokyo as well, but... I bet there are hundreds if not thousands of branches of MUFJ in Tokyo. Not to mention many of your experiences there may very well be much better than your experience in this... Shogoin branch.- Lastly, I like the security guard here,better than the guy at Kyoto-gin(^^). Both are elderly guys but the guy here is kind of funny and when I was sweating heavily on a hot day and was about to leave immediately after withdrawing some money, he said that 'You can cool down here before you go!' with a hearty smile. TL;DR : I still maintain that the bankers here are not the best in Kyoto, but I think that in the long run, if you are planning to live in Japan for a long time, it may be more expedient to get an account here... than the 'local' banks.
