One of several ancient stone Shisa, this treasure is a remnant of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The stone-lions or, Shisa were originally created to protect villages from fires and misfortune. Modern versions of the Shisa, may be seen throughout Okinawa, guarding homes, bridges and businesses.
