At Kyumeikan, together with Japanese senseis, you will probably meet and practice with other foreign students and have an opportunity to learn about kendo in other countries. You will also have the opportunity to visit other well known dojos for practice.Practice in Kendo is offered fove times a week and in Iaido twice a week. All nationalities at any level of experience are welcome and a knowledge of Japanese is not necessary.Should you be unable to arrange your own accomodation, Kyumeikan offers a spartan homestay in the dojo at a very reasonable cost. It is convenient and instructive to stay at the dojo as very often after practice, discussions about kendo and a wide range of related topics take place till after midnight.The dojo is only 12 minutes by train from central Tokyo, and the local station is one minute walk from the dojo entrance.The influences and tradition have been passed down from a famous line of instructors.The founder, Kahei Kubo was a Kyoshi 7th dan and a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Kendo Instructor. He in turn was instructed by Masazumi Mori (Hanshi 9th dan), IwaoTsurumi (Hanshi 9th dan), Tanji Ito (Hanshi), Isamu Sadohara (Hanshi 8th dan) and Gorozo Nakajima (Hanshi 9th dan).The present Director, Akira Kubo in addition to the qualifications already listed was a Councilor of the All Japan Kendo Dojo Federation, a Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Kendo Federation International Section and General Secretary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Dojo Federation. He speaks English and has personally travelled to over 50 countries to introduce and teach kendo as a way to foster international friendship and trust.
