Friendly folks, good bicycles. We rented 2 mountain bikes and rode the 18 km uphill to Shiraito Falls and Lake Tanuki, both beautiful and great spots from which to view Mount Fuji. Would recommend mountain bikes over city bikes because the area is really hilly. Can do multiple-day deals as well. Price list pdf on their website.
This is actually a teppanyaki restaurant which rents some bikes. You can rent either Mamachari ("granny's bike", city bike with 3 gears), or Mountainbikes with 21 gears. Prices are indicated on the website (without the 8% tax, as usual). 1500 Yen/day for a mamachari, 2000 for mountainbike, + 200 mandatory insurance. He also rents helmets. He will give you a padlock per bike.The mountainbikes are good quality, and good size even for a tall guy like me. However the chain was rusty and worn out and I ended up breaking it. So before leaving for a tour, check the chain, cables etc. he does not seem to maintain the bikes a lot.The owner speaks minimalistic english so if you speak a bit japanese it is better (or ask a japanese to make reservation for you).
